According to reliable sources, Samsung Electronics will be collaborating with Siemens to respectively provide Cingular Wireless with WCDMA (Wideband Code Division Multiple Access) handsets and communications equipment. Although no formal contract is known to exist between Samsung and Cingular, it is believed that Samsung will be supplying the latter with over 500,000 units of WCDMA mobile phones. Samsung Electronics estimates its global WCDMA mobile phone shipment volume to amount to five million units in 2005.
